Some might say it has come the point to where the White House may have to talk directly to people of yesterday, meaning those true Baby Boomer's that were born in 1947. The ones who came up during the time America's employment was up. I witnessed Technology come into play on a small scale, in Popular Science magazine's Popular Mechanic's Magazine's and later Popular Electronics's magazine's, a the time when one could get a job if he or she could preform the work . During the middle 60's I got my first real employment just by walking into a large company that made Bread, inside of there employment office. I asked are you hiring today, she said fill out the application and put it the box. Before I wrote my name, a man was standing in the office and looking at my tool's, all I had were my tool box and tool belt hanging on my side dressed in a blue Dickey uniform with a Knowledge of Electro-Mechanical Device's such as electric motor. He ask me to come inside the factory he said we are having a problem with one of our main mixer's. this mixer stood 30ft of the floor. The two owner's were standing around it trying to figure out what was wrong. So push the jog button and heard a loud humming noise, I knew then what was wrong. I pulled the main fuse's put them in my pocket, and use a simple Volt-ohm meter to check the circuit to a 10hp motor and found a burned connection on the control panel. They showed me were the maintenance shop was, they asked me how long would it take I said 15 minute's they could not believe it. It had been down for 1 1/2 hour's,so I replaced a terminal and burned wire. I put the fuses back in and pushed the start button line started up again. that mixer controlled 1/3 of there company production costing $12,000 and hour. I was hired on the spot and did not fill out the application until 2 week's later. This was Burny Brother's Bakery in Chicago,Mr.Burny was very pleased a walk in came and Maintenance Department didn't know what was wrong. From there it was smooth sailing for the next 2 1/2 year's.That was in 1966. (A true discipline) that was learned in my very early childhood, starting with and American Fl yer Train Set, the track's were 3 rail. It used a AC transformer ,(power source) that gave the track's a variable LO Voltage. (Here we will not get into the discipline itself) of the electrical and Mechanical trade's.What I'm saying here is there where great thing's about that train set that I found out, which lead me to further increase my knowledge with the right symbol's of such device's this was in 1956. Other boy's had somewhat the same thing, and even better. Learning to repair and make my own toy's that worked for me was a great ego boost. Coming home from school each day I would find toy's that were slightly broken, toy's that was thrown away by people I called the rich, added to my part's bin. Greatly happy every year a month or too before Christmas, would go on a hunt for discarded Item's in the neighborhood that could be use in other of my project's or be repaired, given a much longer life, this went on for many many year's. It was said to me That mom and dad could not afford the thing's I wanted, which at that time was understood. By knowing that it lead me to be more creative on my own.
